Art Club 2000 was set up back in 1999 by a number of local arts and crafts enthusiasts with the primary aim of promoting and raising awareness and appreciation of arts and crafts amongst people of all ages. Our scope is to teach, educate and encourage artistic talents and interests. The club is a non-profit making organisation and is run purely on a voluntary basis. The current premises at 14A St Publius Street, Mellieha were officially opened on Friday 17th March 2000, hence the name!
During the past 7 years the club has become well established in Mellieha and the surrounding areas following a number of initiatives that were taken by the club committee. Amongst these are the various courses and organised such as art, sculpture, ceramics, ganutell, padded boxes, 3D art, stained glass, stage acting, parchment, lace making etc.
Art Club 2000 also organises several exhibitions during the year. These give both relatively new as well as professional talents the opportunity of exhibiting their work to a wider audience.
Art Club 2000 is proud to confirm that Mellieha Council has entrusted it with the restoration of the Tunnara battery which dates back to 1715. Work is in progress for a permanent exhibition bringing to life a piece of Mellieha's past history.
